Guidance Department Mission Statement

The mission of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools High/Middle/Elementary School Guidance Program is to partner with parents, community, faculty and staff to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students thus preparing them with the knowledge and skills to be productive members of society.

Guidance Services

            The Guidance Department provides the following services:  counseling, classroom guidance, consultation, and coordination.

            Counseling:  Individual and group counseling is available for students.

            Classroom Guidance:  Counselors make presentations on a variety of topics that focus on academic and career counseling.  These presentations are relevant for all students.

            Consultation:  Counselors consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and agency personnel to help meet the educational needs of all students.

            Coordination:  Coordination activities include the registration of new students, course selection, student records, orientation programs, college and career planning, the college application process, PSAT and AP testing, and scholarships.
