11/17/2009

Both of the Kellam Scholastic Bowl teams picked up wins in the matches at Salem on Monday.
The Varsity team started things off with a 395 to 225 victory. The win improves the team record to 4 and 2.
The JV team completed the Kellam sweep with a 170 to 120 win. They improved their record to 4 and 1 with their 4th consecutive victory.
Both teams are scheduled to compete again when they host Cox here next Monday.
Congratulations to all members of both teams for the wins over Salem, and good luck in the matches here next week.

Congratulations to Kathlyn T for earning a spot in the State Championship Cross Country meet with an outstanding performance at the Eastern Region meet Thursday at Bell's Mill Park in Chesapeake.  Kathlyn ran to an All-Region finish and is scheduled to run November 14th at the Great Meadows cross country course in Plains, Virginia.  Way to go Kat, and good luck at states!!!

Congratulations to the Kellam forensics Team for placing 4th at the Tidewater Forensics League Meet last night at Hickory High School.  Individual winners include:

The Scholastic Bowl team added another win Monday with a hard fought 375 to 370 victory over Tallwood.
It is the third win in a row for the Knights, and improves their season record to 3 and 1. The next match is scheduled at Bayside next Monday. Congratulations to all members of the team for the win over Tallwood, and good luck in the match next week.

The girls Volleyball team earned a spot in the District Tournament Semifinals with a 3 game sweep over Bayside Monday. Caroline F, Tessa B, and Paxton C helped lead the Knights to the victory in the quarterfinal match. Caroline & Tessa combined for 12 kills, with Paxton contributing 17 assists to spark the offense. Caroline & Tessa also combined for eight blocks to lead the way on defense.
The team is scheduled to play the second match on Wednesday at Tallwood against Princess Anne. The match will start after the completion of the 5pm match.
Congratulations to all members of the team for the win Monday, and good luck in the semifinal match.

The girls volleyball team won the final match of the regular season Tuesday on Senior Day. The Knights controlled the match by sweeping Salem in 3 games. Seniors Tessa B and Caroline F helped lead the team to the victory. Tessa had 4 kills and 9 digs, and Caroline had 4 aces & 9 kills. Paxton C contributed 27 assists for the match as the Knights finished the regular season with a 8 and 2 record in the district standings. The team is scheduled to play in the district tournament next week. The quarterfinal match is scheduled for Monday. Their opponent and the location will be determined later this week.

Congratulations to all members of the team for the win Tuesday, and good luck in the district tournament.

The JV Football team won its second consecutive game with a 21 to 0 victory at Bayside Monday to finish the season on a winning streak.  Kevin G accounted for two of the scores.  He ran for one touchdown, and threw a touchdown pass to Nick E.  The other touchdown was scored on a run by Cole B.  Jake B converted on all three extra points.
The defense recorded their second straight shutout.  The defense was led by the efforts of Grant E, Darius F, Luke B, Drew S, and Curtis H.
Congratulations to all members of the team for the win!

Both of the Scholastic Bowl teams added wins to their records in matches Monday.
The varsity team started the afternoon off with a close win by a score of 405 to 380 over First Colonial.
The JV team followed with their own close victory, winning by 5 with a 165 to 160 victory.
It was the second consecutive win for both teams. Their next competitions are scheduled here against Tallwood next Monday.

The JV football team won at Kempsville Thursday night by a score of 17 to 0.
Jake B gave the Knights a 3 to 0 lead with a first half field goal.  Cole B started the scoring in the second half by running for a touchdown.  Jalen N put the game away in the fourth quarter by returning an interception for a touchdown.  The shutout was led by the strong defensive efforts of Grant E, Ben Mt, Nick E, Brandon C, Dallas W, and Darius F. The team is scheduled to play the final game of the season at Bayside next Monday.
Congratulations to all team members for the win Thursday, and good luck in the game at Bayside.

The JV Field Hockey team had a winning week to finish their season with a record of 9 – 1!  Their wins this week were against Tallwood on Tuesday and a shutout against Ocean Lakes on Thursday.  Congratulations goes out to all team members for an outstanding season!  And, Big Thanks to all of the faculty, staff and fans who supported us throughout the season!

Both volleyball teams won matches at Kempsville Thursday.

The girls started off the afternoon with a 4 game victory. After dropping a close first game the Knights came back to win the next three for the 3 games to 1 win. The Knights were led on offense by Caroline F & Cheyanne J. The two combined for 20 kills. They also contributed defensively by combining for 8 blocks  to add to the 16 digs by Torey Garin. The win improves the team record to 7 and 2 in the district standings with one regular season match remaining.

The boys followed with an exciting 5 game victory. The Knights won the first two games before dropping the next two. They finished off the match with a 2 point win in the deciding 5th game. Hayden S, Chris N, and Ben K helped lead the Knights on offense by combining for 30 kills, and on defense with a total of 28 blocks. The win puts the team in a good position for a spot in the district tournament with one game left in the regular season.

Both volleyball teams are scheduled to play Salem in the Senior day match next Tuesday to finish the regular season.

Both of the Cross Country teams had impressive performances Wednesday in the Beach District Championship Meet. Both teams earned a berth in the Eastern Region Championship Meet. The region meet is scheduled to be held at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake on November 5th.
Mike Mc helped lead the boys team with an all-district performance by finishing 6th overall out of the 75 runners who competed. He was followed by Sean H, Robert T, Travis V, and Marshall Z to earn the Knights the 4th place team finish that qualified the team for the region meet.
The girls were led by all-district performances by Kathlyn T & Rebecca T. Kathlyn & Rebecca finished 6th and 12th respectively out of the 74 girls who competed in the race. They were followed by Gabby M, Courtney G, and Abby M to earn a third place team finish and qualify for the region meet.
Congratulations to all members of the teams for their performance on Wednesday, and good luck in the region championship.

Congratulations to all members of the golf team for a great season. The team was in a tie for 6th place at the end of the first day of the state tournament on Monday . They came back on Tuesday to finish 3rd in the State as a team after winning a playoff. Alex L helped lead the way with an All-State performance that placed him 6th individually. Trey S, Bryce C, Ryan K, Phillip H, & Kent B added to the team score to help the Knights bring home the 3rd place trophy. Way to go Knights!

The girls volleyball team added another win to their record with a 3 game sweep at First Colonial Tuesday. The win improves the Knights district record to 6 and 2 with two regular season matches left. Cheyanne J & Paxton C helped lead the offense. Cheyanne recorded 19 kills, and Paxton had 31 assists.
 Torey G & Cheyanne helped lead the defense. Torey came up with 14 digs, and Cheyanne added 5 blocks as the team dominated all 3 games.
They are scheduled to play the next match at Kempsville this Thursday before finishing the regular season here next Tuesday against Salem on Senior Day.

This past weekend, the Kellam Marching Knights traveled to the Sportsplex to compete in the United States Scholastic Band Association’s Southeastern Virginia Regional and placed 2nd in Group 1 Open!  The Marching Knights also took home the High Visual Trophy as well as the Samuel Reynolds, Sr. Award for Overall High General Effect.  This weekend the Knights will travel to James Madison University to compete in the Parade of Champions!  Congratulations Marching Knights! 

Both of the Scholastic Bowl teams posted wins Monday in matches at Kempsville.
The varsity team started off the afternoon with a 380 to 305 victory to even their district record at 1 and 1.
The JV team followed that match with their own victory by a score of 190 to 135 to complete the Kellam sweep.
Congratulations to all members of both teams for the wins Monday, and good luck in their matches at First Colonial next Monday.

The football team picked up another win Friday night in a tough defensive battle with First Colonial.
Trent M got the Knights on the scoreboard on the last play of the first half by kicking a 25 yard field goal as time expired. Trent added a second field goal in the 3rd quarter to increase the lead to 6 to 0. KJ F capped the scoring for the Knights with a 16 yard touchdown run, and a 2 point conversion run in the fourth quarter.
The defense did the rest by allowing only 2 total yards gained by the First Colonial offense for the entire game.
The 14 to 7 victory evens the team record at 4 and 4 with two games left in the regular season.
The Knights are scheduled to play the next game on October 30th against Green Run at the Sportsplex. They return home for the regular season finale against Bayside here on Senior Night on November 6th.
Congratulations to all members of the team for the win Friday, and good luck in the next two games as they battle for a spot in the playoffs.
