From the Kellam Activities Desk
Congratulations Cole N, Britt S, Katelyn J, Amy G, Aubrey D for taking first place in the regional KidWind Challenge that was held at Kellam this past Saturday. These students designed and constructed a small-scale wind turbine from scratch and presented there design innovations to judges who work in the field of wind energy. The students then had to test their wind turbine in a wind tunnel and be judged for power output.
Now these brave budding kellam engineers (after blowing away the competition) are headed to the National Challenge Event held at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, DC on April 26 to compete against the best of the best. This showcase is one of the largest engineering festivals in the world and the KidWind Challenge is sure to be a major attraction. Over 200,000 people attend this event from all over the world.
Be sure to congratulate Cole N, Britt S, Katelyn J, Amy G, Aubrey D for a job well done. And wish them luck in DC!!!!!!! Here are a few pics from the event.

Indoor Track Success!
The indoor track teams had an awesome weekend in the state indoor track championship at Boo Williams Sportsplex Friday & Saturday. The girls relay teams raced to season best performances, as the team of Madeleine M, Rachel L, Daphne E and Taylor J placed 2nd in the 4x800 meter relay. Madeleine, Rachel and Taylor were joined by Lauren B to also place 2nd in the 4x400 meter relay. Madeleine added a 2nd place finish in the 500 meter dash, and Rachel placed 6th in the 1000 meter run.
Ryan Z ran a personal best in the mile placing 4th, and Alex D placed 4th in the 300 meter dash for the boys team. The top six places earn all state status.
Ready for the Outdoor Track & Field season?
The Track teams had an outstanding indoor season and are now preparing for the outdoor season. For those interested in participating in Spring track, tryouts will be conducted March 10th and 11th, on the track. Come ready to participate, with an up to date physical. Track is not just running, it includes the shot put and discus as well as the pole vault, high jump, long jump and triple jump.
The indoor track teams put on an awesome performance at the 5A South Region Championship meet Saturday and Monday in Hampton. The girls 4 x 800 relay team of Taylor J, Emily W, Daphne E and Rachel L ran a season best to place 2nd. Rachel and Daphne placed 4th and 8th in the 1600 running personal bests. Rachel came back strong in the 1000 to take second, and Taylor J placed 6th breaking a freshman Kellam record. Madeleine M placed 2nd in the 500 and 5th in the 300 with a personal best time. Lauren B, Madeleine, Daphne and Taylor placed 6th in the 4 x 400 relay.
The boys team was lead by all region performances by Alex D with a 5th place finish in the 300, and Ryan Z placing 6th in the 1600 with a personal best. The top six places qualified for the state indoor championships in two weeks at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. Congratulations Kellam track stars on a great season and good luck at states!

The boys basketball team won for the ninth consecutive time with a close victory over Lakeland HS in the Basketball Showcase game that was played at Green Run Saturday. The team improved the overall record to 9 and 2 with the win. The Knights are scheduled for their first game in the new gym when they host Green Run on Tuesday in a showdown of two of the top teams in the area. The game is scheduled to start somewhere near 7 pm, following the girls game that starts at 5:30. Everyone should come out and cheer on both of the Kellam teams as they go after big conference wins.
The gymanstics team traveled to Great Bridge Saturday to compete in the Wildcat Invitational. The Knights competed in two divisions. They finished runner-up to host Great Bridge in the gold division, and claimed the team title in the green division defeating teams from Brooke Point, Colonial Forge, and Hickory.
The team is scheduled to host Bayside, First Colonial, and Salem in the first ever gymnastics meet in the gym at the New Kellam HS this Monday. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 pm. Everyone should come out to cheer on the Knights in the new gym, and help recognize the seniors who will also be competing in their last home match.
January 10 & 11
The Wrestling team traveled to Hampton to take on the competiton at the Virginia Duals Invitatational Tournament Friday & Saturday. The Knights added two more wins to the team record with a 31 to 27 victory over Franklin County HS, and a 29 to 23 win over Forest Park. The Knights next contests are scheduled on Saturday when they take on HIckory and Norfolk Academy at Norfolk Academy.
Swim & Dive
Both Swim & Dive teams picked up another win in the meets with Bayside at the Princess Anne Recreation center Friday. The boys team won for the second week in a row. The 205 to 104 victory improved the team record to 2 and 1. The girls team remained undefeated at 3 and 0 with their 198 to 114 win. Both teams are scheduled to take on Ocean Lakes in their next competition next Friday starting at 5 pm at Princess Anne again.
The JV girls basketball team added another exciting win to the team record with a 26 to 25 victory over First Colonial in the game played Thursday. It was the second win of the week for the Knights. The next game on their schedule is Monday at Landstown.
The Wrestling team started a winning tradition in the new Kellam gym with three victories in the matches Wednesday. The Knights got wins over teams from Maury, Norview and Salem to start the new conference season on a good note. It was the first event ever held in the gym at the new Kellam HS on West Neck road. Hopefully the team has started something that the other Kellam teams can follow in the next few weeks.
The teams next matches were scheduled for the weekend at the Virginia Duals in Hampton.
The wrestling team is scheduled to host the first event ever in the gym at the new Kellam gym today with three rounds of wrestling. The first round is scheduled to start at 5 pm as the Knights take on the team from Maury HS. They will follow that with a match against Norview, and finish the night in a match with Salem. Hlep pack the new gym tonight to cheer the Knights on as they go after three big wins in in the conference openers. The entrance will open by 4:15 for spectators to enter. The gym entrance is located to the right of the main entance as you face the school from the parking lot.
The boys basketball team added conference win #2 to the team record with 77 to 44 victory over salem Tuesday. The Knights used a total team effort on both end of the court with 13 different players scoring. The win improves the overall team record to 8 and 2. The Knights are scheduled to play Lakeland this Saturday starting at 10:30 am at Green Run HS in the next game.
The Knights will host Green Run in their first "home" game ever at the new Kellam HS next Tuesday.
The Scholastic Bowl team finished the regular season with a big win in the match here with Norview Monday. The Knights tied their season high point total in the 555 to 190 victory. The win gives the team a final regular season record of 9 and 3, and 4 and 2 in conference matches.
The team is schedueld to cmpete next in the Conference Tournament next Monday at Princess Anne HS.

The JV Girls Basketball team picked up another win in the game played at Tallwood Monday. In the coaches words, "they played their hearts out" in the 30 to 25 victory. Six different players scored for the KNights to help lead to the win. The team is schedueld to travel to play First Colonial in the next game Thursday.
The boys basketball team opened conference play with a big win in the final Kellam game ever scheduled to be played in the current gym. After leading by 4 in a low scoring first half, the Knights exploded for 26 points in both the 3rd and 4th quarters to pull away for the 74 to 40 victory over Kempsville. It was the 7th consecutive win of the season for the team. The win was also the 100th career win with the Knights for Coach Hassell.
Swim & Dive
Both of the Knights Swim & Dive teams added wins to the team records in the meets at Princess Anne recreation center Friday. The boys evened the team record at 1 and 1 with a 205 to 104 victory over Kempsville. The girls team won the second consecutive meet to start the season with a 198 to 114 victory. Both teams are scheduled to compete again this Friday against Bayside starting at 5 pm at Princess Anne recreation center again.
The wrestling team had two very successful trips over the holidays.
They started the break with a trip to the University of Deleware over the first weekend to compete at the "Beast of the East" tournament. The team then traveled this past weekend to a tournament at McDonuogh HS in Maryland. The tough competiton helped keep the Knights sharp as they prepare to pick up their district & conference schedule this month. The team is scheduled to host the first contest ever in the gym at the new school next Wednesday. Teams from Maury, Norview, and Salem will help the Knights open the new gym with three rounds of wrestling that are scheduled to start at 5 pm.
Everyone should pan to come out to support the team and see our new gym!
December 27 & 28
The boys basketball team followed the win over Cox with two big non-district victories in the "Coaches vs. Cancer Christmas Shootout" at Bishop Sullivan Catholic HS last weekend. The Knights started with a 40 point victory over Wilson HS in the game played Friday. They followed that with a 59 to 43 victory over the host team in the finals on Saturday. The two wins kept the team ready to start up conference play with the game scheduled here with Kempsville this Friday.
Both basketball teams finished the month with big district wins in the games played at Cox on Thursday before the holiday break. The girls started the evening with a 39 to 28 victory, and the boys followed with a 47 to 37 win in a tough defensive contest.
The teams are scheduled to open the conference season when they host Kempsville here this Friday. The girls are scheduled to start at 5:30 with the boys game following. These are the last Kellam athletic contests scheduled in our current gym at this time. Everyone should come out to cheer on the Knights as they try to close our gym with victories!
The gymnastics team also finished off December on a winning note. The Knights added two more big district wins in the meet at Tallwood on Thursday. They finished with a team score of 144.075 to top Tallwood and Green Run. The team is scheduled to host Bayside, First Colonial, and Salem in a meet in the gym at the new school in their next competiton on January 13th.
The JV boys basketball team took on Cox in a very tough defensive contest here Wednesday, and came away with a 33 to 27 win. It was the second win of the week for the team following a 53 to 40 victory over Princess Anne on Monday. The two wins this week improve the overall team record to 4 and 1. The team is scheduled to play the next game when they travel to play Tallwood on January 6th.

The wrestling team won a total of 21 of the 28 bouts wrestled in matches with Cox & First Colonial Wednesday to add two more wins to the team record. The Knights defeated Cox by a score of 48 to 24, and followed that with a 59 to 13 victory over First Colonial. Sean B and Cory J helped lead the way by pinning both of their opponents for 4 of the Knights 11 pins in the two matches.
The two team wins keep the Knights undefeated for the season at 15 and 0, and 6 and 0 in the district standings.
The team is scheduled to travel over the holidays for their next two competitions, starting with a trip to the University of Deleware for the "Beast of the East" tournament this weekend. They will follow that with a trip to McDonough HS in Maryland the following weekend, before hosting Maury, Norview, and Salem in their Conference openers at the new Kellam gym on January 8th.

The boys basketball team picked up the second win of the week with a 79 to 65 victory in the game at Ocean Lakes Friday. The Knights took an early lead to help lead to the win. After Ocean Lakes cut the lead to one point at the end of the first half, the Knights pulled away in the second half to clinch the victory. Janai RP led all scorers with 20 points. Alex R connected on five 3-point shots to add another 15 points. Kobe C and Will S each scored another 12, and combined for 15 rebounds to help lead the Knights.
The win evens the team record in the district standings at 2 and 2. They are scheduled to host First Colonial here this Tuesday in the next game, before traveling to play at Cox on Thursday.

Swim & Dive
The girls swim & dive team opened the season with an impressive win in the meet with Cox on Friday. The Knights piled up points in all the events to lead to the 173 to 122 victory. It was the first time any district team defeated the Cox girls in a regular season meet since district Swim & Dive started. Divers Sophie B, Molly C, and Charli H swept first through third place respectively to help get the Knights started. In the swimming events, standouts included Kayle M, Marni G, Sarah G, Julia M, and Hayley B.
Congratulations to all members of the team for the big win, and good luck in the next meet with Kempsville that is scheduled on January 3rd!

The Scholastic Bowl team improved the overall season record to 8 and 2 with a victory in the match with Green Run here on Monday. Michael W helped lead the way getting strong support from all team members, including several junior varsity players who participated and scored points to help post the 375 to 170 win. The win also improves the teams conference record to 3 and 1. The next match is scheduled next Monday when the Knights travel to take on Princess Anne HS.

The JV girls Basketball team picked up the first win of the season in the game with Ocean Lakes here Monday. Hannah M, Maddi W, and Meghan J combined to score 27 of the team points to help lead to the 32 to 24 victory. The Knights evened the team record at 1 and 1 with the win.
They are scheduled to host Salem here this Thursday in the next game.

December 6 & 7
The wrestling team had a very successful time at the invitational in Myrtle Beach over the weekend.
The Knights started off with wins in the 4 matches they had on Friday. They followed that with wins in each of the first four matches they had Saturday to advance to the championship match.
The Knights won the last bout of a very competitive championship match to bring home the team title.

The nine wins give the Knights an overall record of 11 and 0. They are scheduled to host Landstown & Ocean Lakes here this Wednesday starting at 6 pm in what could be the final home match in our gym.

Both Scholastic Bowl teams kept the winning streaks alive with victories in the matches at Salem HS Monday. The varsity team used a team leadng 350 points from Michael W to post a 555 to 115 win. The JV team followed with a 250 to 130 victory. It was the fourth straight win for both teams, improving the overall team records to 7 and 1. It was also the second consecutive conference win to start the season for each team. The next match for the teams is scheduled at Maury HS on December 2nd.

The girls volleyball team started the region tournament with a 3 game sweep over Hickory in the quarterfinal match played at Hickory Tuesday. Rachel W helped lead another solid defensive team effort that helped lead to the win. Rachel finished with 14 digs, while Reilly K and Lauren R each added another 7. Lauren also had 39 assists while directing the offense. Rachel F and Reilly each finished with 13 kills to help lead the attack. Katie P, Ashley B, and Sabrina G combined for another 14 kills to help the Knights clinch the win. Ashley added 4 digs, with Morgan C finishing with 6 and Jessie F 4 to add to the defense.
The win advances the Knights to another showdown with district rival Princess Anne in the semifinal match. That match is scheduled to start at 6 pm today also at Hickory HS in Chesapeake. The winner will advance to the Region Championship match this week, and also earn a spot in the Sate Semifinals that are scheduled in Richmond next week!.

The Varsity team started things off with a 435 to 330 victory led by 140 points from Mike W. Cole H, Becca B, Mat H, Mitch P, Rebecca P and Alex F each added key points to help the Knights clinch the win.
The JV team followed with a 240 to 115 win. Each team improved the overall records to 6 and 1 with the victories.
They are scheduled to travel to take on Salem in the next matches next Monday.

The football team pulled out a big win over Princess Anne in the regular season finale Friday at the new Stadium on West Neck road. Patrick K and Maliek B helped lead the Knights by putting them in position to get four field goals by Tyler A, for the 12 to 6 victory. Patrick completed 6 passes for a total of 121 yards, and Maliek finished with 90 yards running the ball. Tyler scored all 12 points, which provided more than enough scoring to help the Knights clinch the win.
The victory helped the team earn the sixth seed in the Region 5A South playoffs. They are scheduled to travel to play Maury this Friday in the frist round.
The game Friday is scheduled to start at 7 pm at Powhatan Field near Old Dominion University. General admission for the game is $8.

Volleyball-Conference Tournament Champions!!
The girls volleyball team got a big boost from their student cheering section, to help propel them to an exciting 5 game victory over Princess Anne in the first ever Conference Volleyball Championship match Thursday at Norview HS.
The Knights used a total team effort to pull off the Championship Match Win!
Lauren R helped direct the offense again, finishing the match with 60 assists. She also had 6 digs to help support an outstanding defensive display that gave the Knights a chance to get the big win! Rachel W and Morgan C helped anchor the big defensive effort. Rachel had 21 digs, and Morgan added another 18 to help lead to many very important points for the Knights. Four different players finished with double digit kills to help spark the offense. Rachel F led the way with 19, while getting great support from Katie P, Reilly K and Ashley B. Katie finished with 15 kills. Reilly added another 14, while Ashley had 10. Katie and Sabrina G each finished with 5 blocks to help lead to more key points, while Jessica Freeman was 13 for 14 with her serves to help the Knights clinch the match.
The Knights are now scheduled to begin the Region 5A South Tournament with a quarterfinal match at Hickory HS next Tuesday.

The varsity team posted the 5th win of the season with a 435 to 295 victory. Michael W helped lead the way with a total of 250 of the team points scored. The JV team followed with their 5th win of the season also, in a close 165 to 145 victory. Both teams are 5 and 1 in the district standings at the halfway point of the season. They are scheduled to start their Conference matches when they host Kempsville next Tuesday.

Cross Country - Region Championship meet
The cross country teams raced in the first 5A South Region Championship meet Wednesday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake. Rachel L, Daphne E and Ryan Z each qualified for the state championship meet that is scheduled next week at Great Meadows, at The Plains in Northern Virginia.
Rachel led the Knights with a personal best of 19:20 to earn all region status with a 12th place finish. Daphne also ran a personal best, placing 19th to qualify for states as an individual for the first time. Ryan led the boys team earning his first individual state qualification. Congratulations to the entire cross country team for a great season winning district and conference titles along the way.

The Scholastic Bowl teams each added another win to the team records with victories in the matches with First Colonial here Monday.
Mike W helped lead the way with 225 points. He got support from teammates Becca B, Cole H, and Mat H to help clinch the 435 to 265 win in the varsity match. The JV team followed with the 4th win of the season with a 215 to 170 victory.
The next match scheduled for both teams is this Thursday when they travel to Cox.

The field hockey team scored four second half goals, on the way to a win over Hickory in the Region Quarterfinal game played at the National Training Center field Monday.
The Knights came back from a 1 to 0 deficit at the end of the first half to takle their first lead with two goals right after halftime by Brenna K and Hannah T. After the score was tied again at 2, the Knights got the eventual game winning goal when Brenna scored again late in the half.
Talia T added an insurance goal to help the Knights clinch the 4 to 2 victory and send them to the semifinals.
Talia, Hannah, and Natalie B each assisted on the goals.
The Knights are now scheduled to take on Gloucester in the semifinals at 3pm this Wednesday at the National Training Center.

The field hockey team today pulled out an exciting victory over Kempsville in the semifinals of the conference tournament played at the National Training Center Thursday. Maddie P and Hannah T scored in the first four minutes of the game to get the Knights an early lead. After Kempsville tied the score at the start of the second half, the Knights turned it on and scored three consecutive goals by Brenna K, Shannon M, and Talia T. Kristen T had some outstanding saves as the Knights held on for the 5 to 3 win.
The team is now scheduled to play Princess Anne in the Conference Tournament Championship game.
That game is scheduled to start at 7 pm today also at the National Training Center.

Both volleyball teams completed the regular season with wins over Norview in the matches played here Thursday.
The girls got things started with the 6 seniors leading the way with wins in the first two games. The younger Knights took over early in the 3rd game to complete the sweep. The Knights were led by Eva D, Samantah W, and Lauren R. Samantha and Lauren helped lead the defense with 9 digs each. Eva led the way on offense finishing with 9 kills. She also had 4 service aces. Lauren added 7 kills, and Sam had another 5 to also contribute on offense for the Knights.
The boys team followed with their own 3 game sweep. Mitch P, Jay H, and Collin S helped lead the Knights by combining for 39 kills. The defense did the rest to help win key points each time Norview made a run, to help clinch the victory.
Both teams are now scheduled to compete in the first ever Conference 9 Tournament that is scheduled to start Saturday at Norview HS.
The boys team will get the long day started in the first of six matches starting at 9 am. The girls team will finish the day in the sixth match of the day that is scheduled to start at 7 pm.

ACTIVITY BUS SCHEDULE CHANGE: Effective October 31
The field hockey team added another big win to both the district and conference records with a 1 to 0 victory over Princess Anne in the game played at the National Training Center Tuesday. The win gives the team a 5 and 0 record in conference play with one game remaining as they go after the number one seed for the Conference Tournament. Brenna K put the ball in the goal early in the game off a pass from Talia T for the only score the Knights would need as the defense did the rest to clinch the win. The team is scheduled to play a non-conference game at Bishop Sullivan today before hosting Norview at the Training Center field in the regular season finale Thursday.
The girls volleyball team also added another conference win to the team record with a three game sweep in the match played at Maury HS Tuesday. That win keeps them undefeated in conference play at 3 and 0 with three matches left. They are scheduled to host Green Run here this Thursday in the next match. The win at Maury was a total team effort led by Maddy T, Carly U, and Courtney K on offense. Maddy finished the match with 10 kills and 2 blocks. Carly & Courtney combined for 25 assists, and Carly added another two kills. Morgan C, Savannah M, & Jessie F helped anchor the play on defense by combining for 19 digs. Morgan also had 6 service aces, and Maitlyn G added another two.

The Marching Knights had another wonderful day Saturday, despite the weather and the field conditions at Kempsville HS. In their first USBAnds show of the season, the Marching Knights placed first in Group II Open winning caption awards for Best Music and Best Overall Effect. The Marching Knights will travel to Annapolis, MD in two short weeks to compete in their final show for the 2013 competitive season at the Mid-Atlantic States Championships. The Marching Knights wish to thank you all for the tremendous show of support this year, and every year!
Cross Country - Beach District Champions!
Both cross country teams won Beach District Championships in the meets at the National Training Center Wednesday!
Rachel L placed second over-all to help lead the girls. Daphne E finished 4th and Julia M 8th to join Rachel with All Beach District Honors. Emily W, Celia C, Eileen V and Morgan O also scored for the Knights to help clinch the team title.
Ryan Z paced the boys team also with a second place finish. Zach H placed 3rd, Aran G 4th and Ryan D 8th to all join Ryan on the All Beach District team. Jake C, Andrew D and Cole N also scored for the Knights to help them clinch the team title.
It was an outstanding effort by all members of both teams in winning the first race of the championship season.
Good luck next week in the Conference 9 Championship meet.

Congratulations go out to the varsity field hockey team for their exciting win last night over conference rival Maury. Jennifer K scored in the first half on an assist from Brenna K , Maury responded with a goal of their own late in the second, but with two minutes remaining in the game, the Knights rallied to score with a goal by Talia T, assisted by Hannah T. The defense was on fire last night, stopping Maury’s shots. Kristen T had an outstanding game in the goal while her defenders, Maddie P, Kylee W, and Livy V did not let up for a second, protecting their cage. The girls remain undefeated in conference play. Come out to watch the final game on the Kellam field tomorrow against Green Run and help to honor seniors Brenna, Jennifer, Maddie, Livy, and Kylee for senior day. Congrats to the team and best of luck tomorrow!

The team is scheduled to play the next match next Tuesday when they travel to Maury for another conference match.

Both Scholastic Bowl teams posted the second win of the season in the matches at Tallwood Monday.
The varsity team was led by Michael W and Becca B in the 465 to 205 victory. Mathew H, Cole H , Mitch P and Rebecca P also contributed points to help the Knights clinch the win.
The JV team followed with an exciting 200 to 170 win in their match. The wins improve the team record for both teams to 2 and 0 for the season.
Their next matches are scheduled on October 21st when they host Bayside.

The Competition Cheer team had an impressive showing at the Beach District Tournament Saturday at Tallwood HS. The Knights finished in 4th place out of the eleven teams with a very spirited routine. Their next scheduled competition is on October 26th in the Conference Championship tournament. The tournament is scheduled to start at 3 pm at Norview HS.

Both volleyball teams won the matches played here Thursday with Kempsville with three game sweeps in the regular season conference openers.
The girls got things started, wasting no time with a quick 3 game victory. Lauren R helped lead the way with 44 assists and 9 digs. She also scored on 3 service aces. Madison T and Katie P helped control play at the net combining for 19 kills. Madison also had 2 blocks, and Kaite added four digs on defense. Sam W and Allison C each had another 6 kills. Sam also finished with 2 blocks, and Allison had 7 digs and 2 aces on her serve. Rachel W finished with 18 digs and three service aces to help clinch the win.
The boys team followed with an exciting 3 game sweep. They won the first game by 4 points, and followed with two 2 point victories in games two and three to close out the match. Colin S and Daniel S helped lead the way to the sweep for the Knights. Mitch P and Jay H contributed with big plays at the net, and Reece B and Joe A helped direct the offense to help the Knights clinch the win.
The Knights are scheduled to play the next conference matches when they travel to Salem HS next Tuesday.

The field hockey game that was scheduled to be played today at Norfolk Academy has been postponed.
At this time, it is still to be determined when it might be played.
The golf team got off to a good start at the first ever Region 5A South golf tournament in Hampton Monday. Henry R helped lead the Knights to 4th place after the first round, just six shots off the lead. Henry finished tied with the lowest score of the day at even par 71. Max A added a round of 76 to help keep the Knights in contention for the title. They are scheduled to play the second round today, also at The Hamptons golf course in Hampton.

Both of the Scholastic Bowl teams posted wins in the season openers with Landstown at Kellam Monday afternoon.
The Varsity Team was led by Michael W in the 360 to 215 victory. Michael finished with a total of 170 points. Cole H and Becca B combined for another 110 points to help clinch the win for the Knights.
The JV team followed the varsity match with a 290 to 95 victory to complete the Kellam sweep on opening day.
The teams are scheduled to travel to Tallwood next Monday for the next match.

The Fine Arts Department had another outstanding showing Wednesday with the performances at the Chorus Pops Concert. On behalf of all those who were fortunate to be in attendance, a BIG thank you goes out to all the members of the chrous, and the behind the scenes crew for a wonderful evening of entertainment.
The Cross Country teams finished the regular season with the meet at the National Training Center Wednesday. Rachel L led the girls team with a 2nd place finish as the team split with wins against Kempsville, Landstown, Green Run and Cox, in the 8 team race. Ryan Z led the boys team as they earned wins against Kempsville, Maury, First Colonial, Green Run and Ocean Lakes. Kellam Girls cross country finished the regular season with a record of 12 and 5. The boys team team finished the regular season with a record of 15 and 2. Good luck Knights in the championship season!!!
The golf team used another day of solid team play in the second round of the Conference golf tournament, to claim the first ever Conference Golf Championship Tuesday at Kempsville Greens golf course.
Derek B helped lead the way with a 2 under par 70 to lead to the individual title. Henry R finished 3rd overall, and Max A 6th to join Derek on the all-conference team, and help the Knights clinch the team title. Kyle H added a second round score of 82 to provide the Knights the 4th score needed to earn the team Championship.
The team is now scheduled to play in the first ever Region 5A South Tournament that is scheduled at the Hamptons golf course next week.

The girls volleyball team added another district win to the team record in the match played at Ocean Lakes Tuesday. The victory raises the overall team record to 13 and 0 for the season. Reilly K helped lead the way finishing with 16 kills and 3 service aces on offense, and 17 digs on defense. Rachel F added another 12 kills and 12 digs, with Rachel W finishing with 28 digs to help anchor the defense again. Lauren R guided the offense again with a total of 45 assists in the 4 game victory. Morgan C was big with 11 points scored on her serve, and she also added another 18 digs to the defense. Sabrina G, Katie P and Ashley B combined for 12 blocks and and 18 kills, helping the Knights control the action at the net.
The team is scheduled to play the next match at home when they host First Colonial here this Thursday. That match will follow the boys match that is scheduled to start at 4 pm.

Golf - Conference Tournament
The Kellam golfers posted the four lowest scores of the day, for a season best team score of 299 in the first round of the first ever Conference Golf Tournament played at Red Wing golf course Monday.
Derek B lead all scorers with a round of 73, followed by teammate Katelyn J with a 74. Max A and Henry R each finished with a 76 to help the Knights take a 17 shot lead over second place Kempsville. The tournament is scheduled to conclude today with the second round at Kemspville Greens golf course.

This past Saturday, the Marching Knights traveled to Hickory High School for their second show of the competitive season at the South Eastern Virginia Music Games. The Marching Knights SWEPT THEIR CLASS winning Best Percussion, Best Guard, Best Drum Major, and First Place overall in Class A! The Marching Knights will travel again on the 12th of October to the Sportsplexx!

The cross country teams both posted wins against Ocean Lakes, Princess Anne, Cox, Kempsville and Bayside in meet two of the Beach District regular season. Rachel L, Daphne E and Emily W finished 2-3-5 to help lead the girls. Julie M and Celia C were the Knight's 4th and 5th runners that clinched the victories. Zach H, Ryan Z, Ryan and Jake C finished 3-4-5-7 to lead the boys team. Andrew D was the Knight's 5th runner. Congratulations Kellam Cross Country on outstanding performances.
Congratulations to the Boys’ volleyball team on their 3 to 1 victory over Tallwood on Tuesday. They won games one and two by scores of 25-18 and 25-21 before dropping game three. They finished the match with a strong game four score of 25-17. The Knights were led by Collin S and Mitch P who combined for 26 kills and 8 blocks. Reece B delivered 33 assists directing the offense. Daniel S and Jay I led the defense combining for 22 digs. Come out and support the team on Thursday when they host the Bayside Marlins at 4 pm.
The Girls team followed the boys with another win in their match at Tallwood. It was the 11 win of the season for the girls. Allison C and Madison T helped lead the way combing for 9 kills. The also had 6 aces and Audrey S added another 4. Audrey also had 7 digs to help on defense.
The Knights are scheduled to host Bayside this Thursday following the boys match.

Both field hockey teams added another win to the team records in the games played at Ocean Lakes Tuesday. Talia T scored twice for the Knights, and Natalie B and Sydney R each added a goal in the varsity teams 4 to 0 victory. The win keeps the Knights undefeated in the district standings at 4 and 0.
The JV team followed that game with the 4th shutout of the season winning 7 to 0. They are also 4 and 0 in the district standings.
Both teams are scheduled to play the next games when they host First Colonial this Thursday. The varsity game is scheduled to start at 4 pm with the JV game to follow.

The golf team added one more conference win to the team record in the regular season finale Tuesday. The Knights defeated Norview for a good tune-up for the first ever Conference Tournament that is scheduled next week. The Knights are scheduled to play the first round next Monday at Red Wing golf course, and finish the two day tournament at the Kempsville Greens course on Tuesday.

The girls volleyball team posted win number 10 for the season with a non-district victory over Hickory in the match played here Monday. The Knights increased the winning margin in each game for a three game sweep. After winning a tight first game by 2 points, they added 11 and 16 point wins in the next two games to clinch the match. Rachel F, Reilly K and Katie P helped lead the attack by combining for 22 kills. Lauren R directed the offense finishing with 26 assists. Katie added 5 blocks, while Rachel and Reilly combined for 15 digs to help the defensive effort. Rachel W finished with 14 digs to help lead the defense. The Knights remain undefeated for the season with their next match scheduled today at Tallwood. The girls match will start approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the boys match that is scheduled to start at 4 pm today.

Congratulations go out to the varsity field hockey team on a big win this past Friday night. They beat Cape Henry with a score of 5 to 2, bumping up their ranking to fourth in the region. Talia T and Brenna K each scored two goals while Natalie B added the fifth. Assists for the goals were made by Maddie P, Shannon M, Brenna and Talia. Outstanding job girls on an awesome team effort! The girls volleyball team won the ninth consecutive match to start the season with a three game sweep over Landstown Thursday. Lauren R and Rachel W helped lead the way combining for 28 digs on defense. Lauren also added 29 assists and 4 kills to help spark the offense. Morgan C added 11 service points and three digs, and Morgan B had 4 kills and 2 digs in the clinching third game. Reilly K had 7 kills and 5 digs, and Katie P contributed with some big hits totaling 10 kills for the match.
The Knights are scheduled to play the next match on Monday starting at 5:30 when they host Hickory.

The boy's cross country team was number one in the meet at the Sportplex course Wednesday racing to five victories. The Knights posted district wins over Salem & Tallwood, and non-district wins over Cox, Kempsville, and Ocean Lakes. Zach H helped lead the Knights in his first Beach District meet, and only his second cross country race with a second place over-all finish in a time of 17:03. Aran G placed 4th in 17:23 and Ryan Zarkowski placed 5th in 17:25. Ryan D and Cole N added depth to the team with times of 17:56 and 18:32 to help clinch the victories.
Rachel L ran a personal best of 20:32, placing 3rd over-all, and Daphne E was close behind in 20:54 to help lead the girls team to a district win over Salem. Emily W ran 21:54 and Celia C and Liz H also posted personal best times as the Knight's 4th and 5th runners to help the team W non-district wins over Cox and Kempsville.

The JV Football team opened it’s season Wednesday night with a 27 to 7 victory over visiting Princess Anne. Cole B helped lead the way with two rushing touchdown’s, and a touchdown pass to Aydan K. Tyree T scored the first touchdown for the Knights by returning a interception. The defense was led by Andrew H, Xavier S, and Cory J. On offense, the ball was controlled by a strong running game led by Brandon K, and Matt C. The passing game was also aided by receivers Casey S and Jacob S.
The Knights travel to Kempsville next week to face the Chiefs on Thursday at 6:00pm.

The cross country teams opened the 2013 season at the Newport News Invitational on Saturday. In his first cross country race, senior Zach H led the boys team to a 5th place finish in a field of 19 teams. Aran G, Jake C, Ryan Z and Ryan D finished 2 through 5 for the Knights. Seniors Rachel L and Daphne E started where the left off a year ago, running personal bests for the girls team. Emily W was the Knights 3rd runner. Celia C and Anna H finished 4th and 5th for the team in their first cross country race. Congratulations to all members of the cross country teams on a solid start to the season.
2013 Fall Sports
The Fall Sports teams have been working hard since the beginning of August for this season. The golf & girls volleyball teams have already started their competitions with the rest of the teams to follow.
The golf team just added wins number 6 & 7 to their undefeated record with victories over Maury & Princess Anne in the match played Tuesday. Henry Reaume earned medalist honors by finishing with a score of 75 to help lead the way to those wins. The Knights are scheduled to play again today when they face Kempsville in a match starting at 11:30 am at Virginia Beach National.

The girls volleyball team got off to a good start with a thrilling 5 game win in the match played with Cox here Tuesday. The top ranked Knights won the first two games, then came back to win the clinching game 5 to record the victory. Rachel F and Rachel W helped lead the way to the win. Rachel F. finished with 17 kills to spark the offense, and Rachel W. helped anchor the defense with 19 digs.
The team is scheduled to compete again next weekend in the Endless Summer tournament at the Virginia Beach Fieldhouse.

The football team is scheduled to open the season when they travel to Salem for a 7 pm start this Thursday.
They will follow that with the home season opener at the new Kellam HS Stadium next Friday when they host Tallwood.
The JV team is scheduled to open their season with a preseason game at the new stadium against Princess Anne on September 11th.

The field hockey team is scheduled to kick off their season with a non-district match against St Catherine's on September 7 at the National Training Center field.
The JV team will open up with a game on September 12 when both teams take on district rival Landstown at the training center field.
The Cross Country teams are scheduled for their regular season opener on September 18th at the course near the National Training Center.
