The Girls Soccer team finished off a big day for Kellam teams Thursday with a shutout win over host Maury in the soccer classic at Powhatan Field.
They were the 7th Kellam team that was competing for the day to pick up a win.
Another strong defensive effort helped keeper Hope S pick up the win in the 5 to 0 victory while five different players scored for the Knights. Bethany F got the scoring started with her first goal of the season early in the game. Katie B & Caity B each added a first half goal to help lead the Knights to a 3 to 0 halftime lead. The Knights had two more goals in the second half with Rebecca S & Mikayla P each connecting to complete the scoring. The Knights are scheduled to play their next game in the Soccer Showcase at the Sportsplex next Friday.
Earlier in the day both Kellam Tennis teams posted their first wins of the season in identical 9 to 0 victories over Salem. The boys team was led by two straight set 6 to 0 wins by Charles S & Mike C in their win at Salem. Elizabeth F also won both of her sets by identical 6 to 0 scores to help lead the girls to the win at home. Both teams are scheduled to play their next match when they travel to Hickory on Saturday.
All four JV teams each opened the season Thursday also by posting wins over teams from Green Run.
The JV Baseball team went on the road, and came back with a shutout win to start the season. Pitchers Robert R, Josh W, and Sean R combined on the shutout, and struck out 13 batters. The Knights used a total team attack on offense finishing with 15 hits in the 9 to 0 win. The team is scheduled to play their next game when they host Landstown here on Monday.
The JV Girls Soccer team had another victory! Goals were made by Helene S, Lexi D, Deanna L, McKael C, Vanessa T, Monica R and Ashley A. More outstanding offensive and defensive plays were made by Savannah J and Payton G. Congratulations girls!
The JV Softball team started the year with a big win over Green Run on Thursday. Baily G and Mallary L combined for a 1 hit shutout. Hitting stars for the game were Kayla M, with 3 hits including a 2 run homerun and Ashley R with 3 hits. Toria A, Cassie T and Raven S each contributed 2 hits. Defensive stars were Toria A, Raven S and Kayla Mc. The JV Softball team plays Monday at Landstown.
They are all scheduled to travel to play their next games on Monday at Landstown.

Track & Soccer have good starts to the spring season!
The Kellam track teams opened their outdoor season Wednesday at Landstown in a quad meet with Landstown, Princess Anne, and First Colonial. Leading the lady Knights with individual wins were Abby M in the 1600 meter run, Courtney G in the 800 meter run, & Kathlyn T in the 3200 meter run.
The team of Gabby M, Catherine P, Cecilia O, and Lisa M won the 4 by 800 meter relay.
Sean H led the boys team with a win in the 3200 meter run, and Mike Mc was runner-up in the 1600 and 800 meter runs.
Congratulations to all the Kellam Knights who competed yesterday on a great start to the outdoor season. Good luck next week at Salem.
The boys soccer team opened up their regular season with a dominating 2 to 0 shutout victory over Warwick HS. The Knights got goals from Phil H & Alex F to provide all the scoring they would need to pick up the win. The offense kept the pressure on throughout the game with outstanding teamwork. Jake B was assisted by a solid defensive effort to hold Warwick scoreless in picking up the win as goal keeper. The Knights are scheduled to travel to play their next game at Grassfield this Friday.
Congratulations to all members of the team for the opening season win Wednesday, and good luck in the game Friday.

The baseball team & girls soccer team both began their regular seasons Tuesday with successful outings.
The baseball team was led on offense by Jeff Di , Patrick H, & Ryan K with two hits each in their non-district opening win. The Knights broke open a low scoring game with 7 runs in the 6th inning of the 11 to 1 victory over Norfolk Collegiate. Ian S was the starting pitcher and picked up his first win of the season.
The team is scheduled to play again this Friday when they host Cox in a game here that is scheduled to start at 4pm.
The girls soccer team got a goal from Mei N to help them start the season with a 1 to 1 tie with the pre-season #3 ranked team from Norfolk Academy. The defense played a big game holding the defending state private school champions to their one goal in the season opening tournament at Powhatan Field in Norfolk. The Knights are scheduled to play their second game of the tournament on Thursday against host Maury, in a game scheduled to start at 7:30.
Congratulations to all members of both teams for the wins on Tuesday, and good luck to both teams in their next games.
The boys soccer team is scheduled to open the season today with a non-district contest that was originally scheduled on Monday.
They are hosting Warwick HS here in a game that is scheduled to start at 7pm. Come out and support the Knights as they start the season.

Madison B entered the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship Competition held Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk and won 1st place and $350! She will represent this chapter at the State level in April with a chance to earn a spot for Virginia in the National Competition. She also won 1st place in the High School Division at Hampton Roads Flute Faire in February.
Madison also made 4th chair in Virginia All-State Symphonic Band, and Livia A made All-State Orchestra.
Congratulations to both of these students for these accomplishments, and good luck to Madison at the state competition next month.

The Kellam Science Bowl team participated in the regional VA State Science bowl competition in Newport News this past weekend. The team of Charles S, Matt S, Julien F, Matt A, and JP F placed 6th in the competition. Congratulations to all members of the Science Bowl team for their success.

This past weekend, two of Kellam’s top band students traveled to James Madison University for VBODA’s All-VA Band and Orchestra Auditions. The two students who qualified by placing at the top in the District were Robert R and Kevin M. Robert’s audition went very well, placing his score at 17th in the State for his instrument. Kevin M MADE the VBODA All-VA Symphonic Band’s 1st Chair Tuba spot with the second highest score in the STATE!
Congratulations to Robert for a great effort and Congratulations to Kevin for Making the 2009-2010 All-VA Band!!!
