New Attendance Notes Policy
- VBCPS is currently in the process of reviewing School Board policy regarding electronic signatures. While the division undergoes this process, we are unable to accept emails and electronic signatures for attendance purposes.
- In all cases of absence or tardiness, students must present a written excuse from a parent/guardian to the school stating the reason for the absence.
- All excuse notes should be dropped off at the security desk.
JV Girls' Basketball News
The Lady Knights extended their winning streak to 7 games with a thrilling overtime win against Maury on Wednesday. They are now 9-2 with one game left against First Colonial on Thursday. Devyn Asercion hit the deciding foul shot with just seconds left in overtime to help clinch the 56 to 55 victory. Savannah Marshall and Bree Thompson helped lead the Knights by combining for 38 of the teams points. Savannah hit one of her four 3-point shots at the buzzer ending the 3rd quarter to get the Knights their first lead of the game. She finished with a game high of 28 points. Bree hit some clutch foul shots late in the game that helped keep the Knights in a good position to get the win. Congratulations to all team members for the exciting victory Wednesday, and good luck in the season finale next week!
The scholastic bowl team took second place in the conference tournament. The team led by Sean Burns, Iris Galante, Alexis Brownlee, and Meghan Bright all had strong matches. This finish qualifies them to compete in the Regional competition on February 14th in Richmond. Good luck scholastic knights!!

Both JV Basketball teams added wins to their Kellam records last week. The girls extended their winning streak to 6 games with a 47 to 28 victory over Bayside. Savannah Marshall led the team with 22 points scored and Caly Lassiter added another 8 to help the Knights clinch the win. The boys team followed with a balanced first half attack with 4 players each scoring 5 points for an early lead. Kevin Swihart added another 15 points in the second half and scored a game high of 20 points to help lead the team to the 47 to 42 victory. Both teams will host Maury on Wednesday when they hope to continue their winning streak.
The Kellam Gymnastics Team has raised their record to 5-1 with wins over Cox and First Colonial: Kellam - 139.425, Cox - 139.175 and FC - 124.375. The top performances were from Emily Ware, Meredith Alwine, and Natalie Marcil earned 1st, 2nd , and 3rd place in the all-around versus First Colonial. Emily won 1st place in vault, bars, and floor and Natalie won 1st place in beam. Congratulations on a fine team effort edging out the Cox Falcons by three tenths of a point. Our home meet is Monday, Feb. 2nd at 6:00.
The wrestling team followed another successful weekend with a big conference win over Kempsville on Wednesday. Austin Cole and Richard Selamaj won individual titles to help lead the Knights to the team championship in the "Ram Rumble" tournament in Williamsburg on Saturday. Matt Duffany had some key victories in the tournament to help the team clinch the title. He had one of the 7 pins for the Knights and picked up his 100th career victory. Overall, the Knights won 12 of the 14 individual bouts against Kempsville to remain undefeated in Conference matches.
The JV girls basketball team extended their winning streak to a total of 5 games by beating Green Run on Thursday. Savannah Marshall scored 17 points in the first half while Sidney Swoope and Kaitlyn Ashcraft led the team with 6 rebounds that helped the team solidify their lead. The Knights ended the game with a 62 to 28 victory, improving their record to 7 and 2.
Congratulations to all team members for the win over Green Run and good luck in the game with Bayside here next Thursday, Jan. 22.
Scholastic BowlThe scholastic bowl team finished the regular season with a big win in the match at Norview HS Tuesday. The victory gives the team a 5 and 1 record in the conference standings, and clinched the number 2 seed in the conference tournament. The Knights are now scheduled to travel to Princess Anne HS next Tuesday to compete in the tournament with a chance to move on to the region championship.

The JV girls basketball team added another win to their record with a big victory against Tallwood on Monday. Caly Lassiter and Savannah Marshall led the team by scoring 26 of the 47 points needed to win. The victory brings the Lady Knights to a 4/2 record. Come out and support them as they host FC on Wednesday at 5:30.
Both varsity teams have a big conference match up with Maury at home this Friday. The girls tip-off at 5:30 and the boys will follow a little after 7:00. Lets pack the gym to support the Knights as they go after the victory Friday night.
The following wrestlers will be heading to the University of Delaware to wrestle in the prestigious Beast of the East Wrestling tournament, the number one tournament in the country. It is a huge opportunity for the Kellam wrestlers to be noticed by the large number of college coaches in attendance. Way to go guys!
